How Containerised Storage Actually Works
When most people picture storage they imagine a long corridor of metal-shutter rooms in a self-storage warehouse. Containerised storage works differently — and, in our experience as a family-run Sussex storage company, it works better. Your belongings are loaded into a dedicated, purpose-built timber storage container, typically holding around 250 cubic feet, and that single container is then sealed, labelled with your name and reference, and moved by forklift into our secure warehouse where it sits undisturbed until you need it again. Nobody opens it, nothing is added to it, and your goods are never co-mingled with another customer’s possessions.
The practical advantages of this approach become obvious the moment you compare it to walking your own sofa down a public corridor. Because we pack the container at the point of collection — usually straight from your house removal — your furniture is handled once, wrapped properly, and not dragged in and out of trolleys. The container becomes a single tamper-evident unit. We know exactly which container is yours, where it sits in the warehouse, and the condition it went in. That chain of custody is far cleaner than a self-storage room that anyone with a code can access at three in the morning.

Why Container Storage Is Cleaner & More Secure Than Self-Storage
Cleanliness and security are the two reasons customers most often switch to us from a self-storage unit. Our warehouse is dry, ventilated and managed, so your goods aren’t exposed to the damp that creeps into unheated metal rooms over a winter. Because each container is sealed once it’s loaded, dust, pests and moisture have far fewer ways in than they do in a unit you open weekly. Founded in 2016 and operating from Doryln House, London Road, Ashington, near Pulborough RH20 3JT, we treat the warehouse as a working facility, not a self-service car park.
Security is layered rather than left to a single padlock. The building is alarmed and monitored, access is staff-controlled rather than open to the public, and your individual container stays sealed throughout its stay. You are not given a key to wander the site unsupervised, which sounds restrictive but is precisely what keeps everyone’s goods safe. As a LAPADA-member and Checkatrade-verified company, we are fully insured with £10m liability cover, and we’re recommended by respected local agents including Fine & Country, Justin Lloyd and Mansell McTaggart.
- Alarmed, monitored and staff-controlled warehouse access
- Individually sealed containers — no shared, open-plan rooms
- Dry, ventilated storage that protects against damp and dust
- Fully insured throughout with £10m liability cover

Accessing Your Goods While They’re In Store
A common worry with containerised storage is access — if the container is sealed in a warehouse, how do you get to your things? The answer is simple: you give us a little notice and we retrieve your container for you. Because the unit isn’t on a public access floor, we ask for advance arrangement rather than offering 24-hour drop-in. For the overwhelming majority of customers this is no inconvenience at all, because storage is usually a bridge between two homes or a holding pen for items you don’t need day to day. If you genuinely expect to dip in and out frequently, tell us when you book and we’ll position your container for easier handling.
This managed approach is part of why the goods stay in such good condition. Every time a self-storage room is opened the contents are exposed; with us, the container is opened only when you specifically ask, under supervision, and resealed afterwards. If you simply need to add or remove a few boxes, we can arrange that too — just call 01903 893731 or email contact@wolves-removals.co.uk to book a slot.

What You Can — And Can’t — Put Into Storage
Most household and office contents are ideal for containerised storage: furniture, white goods, boxed kitchenware, books, clothing, garden tools, business stock and archived paperwork all store happily for months or years. The few exceptions exist for safety and legal reasons rather than awkwardness, and they mirror the rules of any reputable insured storage facility.
- Cannot be stored: flammable or explosive items, gas bottles, petrol, paint and aerosols
- Cannot be stored: perishable food, plants or anything that will rot or attract pests
- Cannot be stored: living things, including pets
- Cannot be stored: illegal goods, firearms or hazardous chemicals
- Store with care: high-value items such as jewellery or important documents — tell us in advance so cover is correct
If you’re unsure whether something qualifies, ask before the collection day. It saves a surprise on the doorstep and means we can wrap fragile or valuable pieces appropriately, often as part of our full packing service.

Preparing & Sizing Your Storage With Our Calculator
Items that go into store well come out well, and a little preparation goes a long way. Empty and defrost fridges and freezers so they dry out before sealing. Drain washing machines and dishwashers. Dismantle bed frames and flat-pack furniture where you can, keeping fixings in labelled bags taped to the item. Wrap upholstery and mattresses in covers, and box loose items rather than stacking them loose — sturdy boxes stack squarely and use the container space efficiently. We can handle all of this for you, but a few simple steps on your side keep things tidy and protected.
The other half of preparing is knowing how much storage you actually need so you neither overpay nor run short. Our storage calculator lets you build a room-by-room inventory and estimate the number of containers your move requires in a couple of minutes. It’s a far more reliable starting point than guessing, and it feeds straight into an accurate, no-obligation figure when you get a quote. You can also review our straightforward storage pricing before you commit.

Short-Term, Long-Term, Business & Combined-With-A-Move Options
Storage rarely looks the same for two customers, so we keep the options flexible and the contract simple. Short-term storage suits the classic gap between completion dates, a renovation, or a sale that’s a few weeks ahead of the purchase — learn more about short-term storage and how we bridge those moves. Long-term storage works for furniture you’re not ready to part with, an inheritance, or a spell working abroad; our long-term storage rates reward longer commitments. For traders, our business and commercial storage holds stock, equipment and archives off-site without the overhead of a leased unit, and students can use our dedicated student storage over the summer break.
The biggest single saving comes from combining storage with your move. Because we collect, load the container and store it in one continuous operation, your goods are handled the minimum number of times and you deal with one company, one quote and one team from doorstep to warehouse. Covering West Sussex, East Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and Kent from our Ashington base, we can fold storage neatly into a house removal without the double-handling that comes from booking a remover and a separate self-storage firm.
