Haywards Heath to Horsham Removal: A Barn Conversion in the Rain
Oak beams, rain and three van loads.

A Two-Day House Removal From a Barn Conversion
On Friday 23 October 2026 Wolves Removals started a house removal from a barn conversion near Haywards Heath (RH17). The client is moving to a new home in Horsham, West Sussex. The barn has exposed oak beams, a galleried landing, oak floors and a brick courtyard, and the day was properly wet and windy.
The move is split over two days: shuttle runs between the two homes on Friday, then one last van load on Monday 26 October.

The Route to Horsham via Warninglid
Haywards Heath and Horsham town centres are about 13.5 miles apart by road, roughly 26 minutes with clear roads. The route runs west through Cuckfield and Warninglid, then north-west into Horsham.
How the two days run
Day oneFriday 23 October
- Protect. Floor and carpet protection laid from the door all the way through.
- Wrap. Furniture blanket-wrapped, padded and strapped in.
- Shuttle. Two Luton vans loaded at the barn, driven to Horsham and unloaded there.
Day twoMonday 26 October
- Load. The last van load, with two crew.
- Drive. West to Horsham.
- Unload. Into the new home.
Day One: Shuttle Runs in the Rain
With three crew and two Luton vans on day one, two van loads came out of the barn and went straight into the client’s new home in Horsham.
That is a shuttle run: load at one home, drive, unload at the other, all in one day. It works when the client can get into both homes, and this client could.

How Do You Protect Oak Floors on a Wet Moving Day?
On a wet moving day, every trip in from the van can bring water and grit with it, and this barn has oak floors. So protecting the property came first.
Floor and carpet protection went down from the door all the way through. Boots and furniture crossed the protection, not the bare oak. You can see the blue runner in the photo at the top of this story, laid through the main room.
Before a move from a barn conversion
- Tell your remover about wooden or stone floors, so floor protection is planned for every route in and out.
- Mention a galleried landing or open staircase: furniture from upstairs comes down it.
- Say how the vans reach the door: across a courtyard or along a gravel drive, as at this barn.
- Clear the courtyard or drive of anything the crew will need to walk around.
- If you are taking furniture apart yourself, finish before the crew arrives and keep the fixings with each piece.
- Have a plan for rain: somewhere dry inside the door to stage things as they come out.

Wrapping Antiques and a Chesterfield for the Journey
As our post from the day put it: “Everything was blanket-wrapped, padded and strapped in securely to keep it safe and dry for the journey.” That included the client’s antique pieces and the Chesterfield sofa.
In the vans, the wrapped pieces were strapped to the rails along the sides, to stop them shifting on the road. The photos below show two of the loads: quilted covers and grey blankets, with straps across each load.

For more on how antique furniture is protected, see our antique removals service, our guide to moving antique furniture and how to wrap antique furniture for moving.
Day Two: The Last Van Load Into Horsham
The final van load is booked for Monday 26 October, with two crew and one Luton van. It is one more van load of furniture the client has taken apart, and it should complete the move into Horsham.
How Much Did the Haywards Heath to Horsham Removal Cost?
Wolves Removals quoted this Haywards Heath to Horsham house removal at £1,725 plus VAT, £2,070 including VAT, for three Luton van loads over two days. The quote came from the client’s WhatsApp video of the items, instead of a home visit.
The client took their own furniture apart, so the quote covered the furniture removal only, in two parts:
The quote, before VAT
- Day one£1,1503 crew, 2 Luton vans, two loads
- Day two£5752 crew, 1 Luton van, one load
Total £1,725 plus VAT, £2,070 including VAT. Prices from the quote for this move, October 2026.
Your own price will depend on how much you move, the access at both ends and the distance; this is one real example. Our guide to removal pricing explains how a quote is built.

About 13.5 miles between the two town centres, and about 26 minutes with clear roads. The fastest route heads west through Cuckfield. From there the B2115 runs through Warninglid, with a short stretch of the B2110, to Lower Beeding, and the A281 takes you into Horsham.
The vans run between the two homes on the same day: load at one, drive, unload at the other. It works when you can get into both homes that day. On a street too narrow for a lorry, a shuttle can also mean a smaller van running loads to a lorry parked further away. On this move, two Luton vans shuttled between a barn near Haywards Heath and the client’s new home in Horsham.
Yes. Wolves Removals quotes from WhatsApp videos: walk round your home with your phone and send us the video, with both postcodes and your date. We quoted this Haywards Heath to Horsham move from the client’s video.
Lay floor and carpet protection from the door all the way through, so boots and furniture cross the protection rather than the wood.
