How good are the trains from Bognor Regis?

Good for London and Gatwick, slower for everywhere else. Bognor Regis is the only station on a short branch line, and every train calls first at Barnham, the junction. On weekdays, 32 direct trains run to London Victoria, every 30 minutes from 5.56am to 9.26pm. They take 1 hour 49 minutes and stop at Gatwick Airport after about 1 hour 13 minutes.

No train runs direct to Chichester. You change at Barnham, about seven minutes up the line. With a good connection, Chichester takes 20 to 22 minutes in all, Portsmouth Harbour about an hour and Brighton 54 minutes.

Which schools serve Bognor Regis?

The town has two state secondary schools of its own, and both have a sixth form. The Regis School on Westloats Lane is an academy for ages 11 to 19, run by the United Learning trust. Felpham Community College on Felpham Way is a county-run school for ages 11 to 18. At their latest Ofsted visits, both kept their good standard: The Regis in March 2023 and Felpham in October 2024.

Source: Ofsted reports, checked 22 October 2026. “Ungraded” visits check that a school is still at its last grade without giving a new one. Since September 2024 reports say “standards kept” instead of “still good”.

Ofsted stopped giving one-word overall grades in September 2024. Since November 2025 schools get report cards that grade several areas separately. St Philip Howard at Barnham has one, from April 2026, with “strong standard” in six areas, including its sixth form, and “expected standard” for personal development. Among primaries, Rose Green Junior was rated Outstanding in June 2024. Downview Primary’s October 2024 report says parts of its work may not be as strong as before, and its next inspection will be a full one.

The three secondaries with sixth forms are The Regis, Felpham and St Philip Howard; Ormiston Six Villages at Westergate stops at 16. There is no further education college in the town. The nearest is in Chichester, about six miles away as the crow flies. The University of Chichester has a Bognor Regis campus on Upper Bognor Road, home to its engineering, design and digital technology departments.

Check your new address on the county’s catchment map before you commit to a street. Catholic schools, and some church schools such as Bishop Tufnell, have church-based catchments or none.

How do you get a school place mid-year?

For most schools, apply to West Sussex County Council about four weeks ahead, with proof of address. The county aims to decide within 10 school days.

Getting a school place mid-year: four steps

  1. Check who handles it. For most schools here, including most academies, you apply to West Sussex County Council. Only a few run their own in-year admissions; in Bognor these are Edward Bryant, Nyewood CofE Junior and St Mary’s Catholic Primary. For those, contact the school.

  2. Apply about four weeks ahead. The county suggests applying about 20 school days before you want your child to start.

  3. Have proof of address ready. The county’s form asks for a signed tenancy agreement or an exchange of contracts letter.

  4. Expect an answer in about two weeks. The county aims to deal with applications within 10 school days, longer around holidays. After an offer, your child should start within 10 school days.

Should you rent first?

That is below the England average of £1,466 and the South East’s £1,438. Our removals and storage service can hold what won’t fit until you buy.

Bin collections changed on 13 April 2026, so older advice is out of date. Weekly food waste collections began then, and general waste moved to every two weeks. Purpose-built flats in Bognor Regis, Felpham and Aldwick started food waste later, from the week of 29 June. Collection days may change, so look yours up on the council’s postcode search.

Food waste

Weekly

General waste

Every two weeks

A 180-litre wheeled bin for most homes. Some blocks of flats stay weekly.

When should you do each step of the move?

Book removals about eight weeks out; send any in-year school application and tell Arun your move-in date four weeks before.

What to do, and when

  1. 8 weeks before Book your removals, check school catchments and gather proof of address.

  2. 4 weeks before Send any in-year school application, tell Arun District Council your move-in date for council tax, arrange utilities and set up mail redirection.

  3. Move week Confirm parking for the lorry and register with a GP.

  4. First 2 weeks Look up your bin days, register to vote and change the address on your driving licence. It’s free, and you can be fined up to £1,000 for not doing it.

We move Esplanade flats regularly: narrow resort-era stairwells, often no lift and restricted kerbside loading. If you are moving into one, a new-build or a retirement block with one shared door, raise access when you book. Seafront bays are often pay-and-display or time-limited, so where needed we arrange a parking dispensation through Arun District Council. Our Bognor Regis removals page explains how we plan for it; we also cover Pagham and Selsey.

Is Bognor Regis the right move?

If you want the coast, more home for your money, a direct line to London and Gatwick, and good schools nearby, it works. If you need a quick train west or a further education college in town, it is harder. See our house removals service, read our guide to planning a house move, or ask us for a quote.
